What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck with buttons. The plain round crewneck sits flat at the collarbone and fastens with small buttons along the shoulder line. It pulls on easily without tugging.
  • Dropped raglan sleeve. The long sleeves begin low on the shoulder to keep the armhole roomy. Ribbed cuffs hold the wrist so the extra sleeve fabric bunches naturally.
  • High-rise knit trouser. We gave the trousers a broad elastic waist that pulls on without hardware. The knit falls straight from the hip down through a wide hem.
  • Laundering the knit. Hand wash the set in cool water with a mild wool detergent, or dry clean it. Press out excess moisture in a towel and dry both pieces flat.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
