What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and raglan sleeve. The top starts with a ribbed round crewneck and drops into long raglan sleeves. That seam angle leaves generous room through the armhole and across the chest, letting the knit hang straight down.
  • Side slits and hip hem. The sweater hem lands around the hip and splits at the side seams. These open vents give the top room to move over the trouser waistband without bunching up or pulling when you sit.
  • Wide leg knit trousers. We built the bottoms with a high rise and an elastic waist band that pulls on without hardware. The knit runs down into an open wide leg hem with steady vertical drape.
  • Care and maintenance. Wash this set by hand in cool water or choose dry cleaning. When drying, spread both pieces flat on a clean towel so the wet weight of the knit does not pull the shape out of line.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
