How we work
Three things we keep to
Yarn before shape
We pick the yarn weight before drafting the pattern. A cable knit sweater dress needs body, while an open cardigan needs enough drop to hang straight from the shoulder.
Useful hem cuts
Our hems are set to work with flat shoes and boots alike. We test the drop on skirts and midi dresses so the hem stays level when you move.
Hands on notes
The people who write these descriptions hold the sample knits. We describe the pull of the ribbing, the depth of the mock neck, and the weight of the pocket.
Picking one in three steps
Decide how close it should sit
Room to move, follows the body, or close to the skin. Everything else is easier once this is settled.
Check where the hem lands
Above the hip, around it, or below the knee. A piece two inches off reads wrong even in the right size.

What knitwear forgives and what it does not
Worth doing
- Wash cool and inside out, then dry the piece flat and in shape.
- Fold knitwear. A hanger drags the shoulders down within a season.
- Take pills off with a comb or a fabric shaver, not with your fingers.
- Give a knit a day off between wears so the fibres come back.
Worth avoiding
- Wringing water out. Press it out in a towel instead.
- A hot tumble dryer, which shortens a sleeve faster than anything else.
- Bleach and softener on any knit that has wool in the blend.
- Storing anything damp, even folded, even briefly.
Why we sort by drape
A shade of yarn looks different under morning light than it does at night, but the shoulder seam stays where it was cut. We organize our 203 pieces by drape because how a garment hangs determines if you reach for it. Once the neck, sleeve, and hem work for your day, finding your shade is straightforward.
Reading a knit before you buy it
Reading a knit starts at the shoulder seam. A drop shoulder gives room across the chest, while a raglan sleeve follows the natural line of the arm. Check the neck construction next. A folded turtleneck stands on its own, whereas a mock neck stays low and close. Finally, the hem ribbing shows how the piece settles against trousers or skirts.
Our shelves follow how clothes work on a body. A sweater dress sits with dresses because it solves a whole morning on its own.
