We knit this two-piece set to sit straight through the torso and legs. The top finishes with a stand collar and long sleeves, while the trousers fall wide to the ankle with side pockets. Both pieces share the same soft, fine-gauge knit so they balance each other when worn together.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Half-high collar. The neck rises into a clean mock collar that stays upright without folding over. It covers the throat against cool air while leaving plenty of room to layer beneath a heavy coat.
  • Wide-leg trouser cut. The knit trousers fall straight from a drawcord waist into a broad, relaxed leg. Side pockets sit flat into the knit seams to hold small items without pulling the shape out of line.
  • Fine-gauge stretch knit. We use a smooth, soft-spun yarn with built-in give that retains its shape as you sit and move. The surface is completely smooth against bare skin and feels substantial without being bulky.
  • Care and maintenance. Turn both pieces inside out and place them in a mesh laundry bag before machine washing on cold. Tumble dry on low heat or lay flat to dry to keep the ribbing and seams straight.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
