Women Oversized Cardigan Sweater

We knit this cardigan with a wide, generous body that hangs away from the torso. The deep V-neckline leads into an open front that rests flat against tees and shirts. Long sleeves settle past the wrist, while the apricot yarn gives the surface a soft, muted look.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Roomy open front. The body is cut wide through the sides so it slips easily over long sleeves without bunching. The open front lets the knit drape naturally without buttons pulling at the fabric.
  • Sleeve and shoulder line. Dropped shoulders lower the armholes and give the long sleeves extra room through the upper arm. Ribbing at the cuffs helps keep the sleeve settled at your wrists.
  • Yarn and apricot shade. We chose a soft, flexible yarn that gives this plain knit a gentle weight and natural stretch. The solid apricot shade gives the entire surface an even, warm tone.
  • Hand washing and drying. Wash this cardigan by hand in cold water or take it to a dry cleaner. Press out excess water gently with a towel and lay the knit flat to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
