This skirt uses a smooth faux leather with slight give, cut to follow the line of the hip and drop down to the ankle. A high waistband anchors the fit firmly, while a side slit breaks the long column to make walking natural. We dyed this version in a rich coffee tone.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • High waist cut. The waist band sits high and holds its position with gentle stretch. A discreet side zipper allows the straight column shape to wrap closely around the hips without bunching under thick winter knits.
  • Maxi column and slit. The skirt drops straight past the knee down toward the ankle. To balance the close fit along the length, we added an open slit that gives your stride full clearance.
  • Coffee faux leather hand. The material has a supple hand with a soft matte sheen on the outside and a smooth inner face. It blocks wind well, giving structure to fine knits or bulky cardigans.
  • Care and maintenance. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth for light spots. When washing is necessary, turn the skirt inside out and use a cold gentle cycle, then hang it away from direct heat to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
