Off The Shoulder Tops Oversized Short Sleeve Tshirts

We knit this piece with an open, relaxed shape that sits away from the torso. The neckline pulls wide across the shoulders, balanced by short sleeves and a hem that lands on the shorter side. It pairs cleanly with high-waisted knit skirts and wide-leg trousers.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Wide off-shoulder cut. The neckline is cut broad to sit open across the collarbones without tight binding. It stays in place while keeping the upper chest clear for easy movement.
  • Roomy torso drape. We give the body a wide, square cut so the fabric hangs straight down rather than pulling in. The knit moves freely and does not cling through the waist.
  • Cropped lower hem. The bottom hem lands short to balance the wide proportion of the top. It meets the waistband of palazzo trousers or knit skirts without tucking excess bulk into the waist.
  • Gentle machine wash. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle using a mesh bag to protect the open neck. Lay the top flat to dry so the short sleeves and neckline keep their shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
