What we would tell you in the studio

  • Ribbed knit texture. We use a fine-gauge rib knit that stays flexible while holding its shape. The surface feels smooth against bare skin, and the yarn provides reliable recovery so the knees and elbows do not bag out during long sits.
  • V-neck and cropped hem. The top has an open V-neckline and long sleeves that fall straight to the wrist. We cut the body short so the hem clears the top of the trouser waistband, keeping the overall proportions balanced.
  • Wide-leg trouser shape. The trousers sit on an elastic band with an adjustable knit drawstring to set the rise. Cut roomy through the hip and thigh, the legs fall straight down to a wide, ungathered hem and include two flat side pockets.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash the set in cold water on a gentle cycle. Tumble dry on low heat or lay both pieces flat on a rack so the ribbing retains its length and original shape across regular wear.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
