We knit this mini dress in a fine vertical rib that stretches across the torso and snaps back into place. The mock neck sits close at the base of the throat without folding over. It has long, straight sleeves and a hem that lands well above the knee.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Ribbed knit structure. A fine-gauge vertical rib gives this knit its lateral stretch. The stitches open up over the body to trace the line of the torso and recover their shape when taken off.
- Mock neckline. The collar stands straight up without a fold, cut close to the neck. It holds its upright shape through a doubled knit band that resists sagging.
- Straight long sleeves. The sleeves follow the arm down to the wrist with the same continuous ribbing as the body. They fit smoothly under heavy coats or cropped jackets without bunching.
- Washing and care. Wash on a cold cycle to preserve the elastic recovery of the knit. Tumble dry on low heat, or lay it flat on a rack so the wet hem does not stretch.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
