What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew top and cropped hem. The top has a wide crew neck and dropped shoulders that leave plenty of space through the chest. The bottom hem sits cropped, clearing the waistline of the trousers without bunching.
  • Wide leg trouser. The pants are cut straight and wide down the leg, falling freely from an elasticated drawstring waist. The fabric hangs cleanly to the shoe without clinging to the knee.
  • Apricot yarn blend. We spun rayon, polyester, and spandex together into a fine gauge knit with a smooth surface hand. The pale apricot tone gives the simple jersey stitch a clean, quiet look.
  • Washing and care. Wash both pieces inside out on a gentle cycle in cold water. Lay them flat across a drying rack so the wide trouser legs and sweater hem keep their shape over time.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
