What we would tell you in the studio

  • Striped knit gauge. Horizontal stripes are knitted directly into the yarn rather than printed on top. The medium-weight knit has natural horizontal give and rests soft against the skin without needing a base layer.
  • Crewneck and batwing sleeve. The top is built with a simple round crewneck and dropped shoulders that flow into long batwing sleeves. The body cut is roomy and sits away from the torso, ending near the hips.
  • Wide-leg knit trousers. We knit the trousers with a generous leg that falls straight from the hips down to the hem. A wide elastic band holds the waist in place without hardware, ties, or pockets to add bulk.
  • Washing and flat drying. Wash both pieces together in cool water on a gentle cycle so the knit colour stays uniform over time. Lay flat on a towel to dry so the heavy wet yarn does not pull the shape out.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
