Oversized Cardigan Sweaters for Women
A loose open cardigan knit to hang straight and clear of the body. We shaped the shoulders low on the arm and finished the edges with wide ribbing that anchors the front panels. Two deep patch pockets sit at the front for your hands or small items.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Cut and drape. The body sits wide and boxy with dropped armholes, falling away from the waist without pulling tight across your back. It stays open in front without buttons.
- Pocket and hem rib. We knitted two flat patch pockets right onto the lower front panels. Broad ribbing runs along the bottom border and sleeve cuffs to keep the knit from curling.
- Layering weight. The yarn has a soft, smooth hand that adds light warmth over short sleeves, tank tops or thin collared shirts without creating bulk under a heavier coat.
- Care for the knit. Wash by hand in cool water and lay the piece out flat on a towel to dry. Hanging this cardigan wet will stretch the shoulder line.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
