We cut these trousers with a roomy wide leg that falls straight from front pleats. The paperbag waistband features an elasticated back panel and a matching fabric belt you can tie or remove. Two inset side pockets sit along the hip seams.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Paperbag waist construction. The high waistband gathers slightly into a paperbag top edge. We put elastic through the rear band so it stays put without bunching, while the front remains flat under the removable tie belt.
- Pleated wide leg. Front pleats release extra volume through the thighs and down to the hem. The fabric hangs away from the leg as you walk, holding its shape without clinging.
- Deep side pockets. We set functional slant pockets into both side seams. They sit flat against the hip when empty and stay hidden beneath the loose fold of the waist pleats.
- Laundering and care. Wash these in cold water inside a mesh laundry bag on a gentle cycle. Lay them flat to dry or run on tumble dry low, skipping bleach to protect the yarn.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
