We knit this long tunic with a roomy cut that drops straight and hangs away from the torso. The mock turtleneck stands up close around the throat without folding over. It covers the line of the body down toward the lower leg, giving you a substantial cold-weather layer that pairs easily with slim trousers or leggings.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Upright mock collar. The neck stands upright in a fine rib that holds its shape against the skin. It provides throat coverage without the bulk or heat of a doubled-over roll collar.
- Straight long drape. The body is cut wide and long, falling straight down past the knee toward the ankle. Side splits at the hem allow the lower edge to move freely as you walk.
- Full length sleeves. The sleeves are knitted long to match the relaxed body proportion. Ribbed cuffs pull the fabric in gently at the wrists to keep the volume controlled around the hands.
- Washing and drying. Hand wash in cold water or use a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Avoid bleach and tumble drying. Lay the knit flat on a towel to dry so the long body keeps its shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
