Women's Oversized Batwing Knit Sweaters
We knit this pullover with a deep batwing sleeve and a wide body that hangs well clear of the waist. The crewneck sits flat at the base of the collarbone. Exposed seam details run along the construction lines, giving the nutmeg knit clean structure through the shoulders and down to the vented hem.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Batwing sleeve and cuff. The sleeve drops from an extra-low armhole and narrows into vertical ribbing at the wrist. That narrow cuff anchors the extra fabric so the volume stays through the forearm instead of falling over your hands.
- Exposed seam lines. We brought the join seams to the outside of the garment across the shoulders and body panels. These raised ridges give definition to the wide cut and break up the flat surface of the knit.
- Vented tunic hem. The hem falls long toward the hips with open splits at each side. Those vents let the fabric part over jeans or knit trousers rather than bunching when you sit or walk.
- Laundering and care. Wash on a gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag with matching tones. Lay the sweater flat on a towel to dry so the wet weight does not stretch out the batwing shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
