We knit this two-piece set from a light yarn with a smooth, fluid hand. The top features an open V-neck placket with buttons and a short hem, while the matching trousers sit with a wide leg and an elastic waistband. Both pieces are dyed together in the same lot.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Henley V-neck top. The short-sleeved top is shaped with a soft V-neckline that fastens with small buttons along the placket. It hangs away from the torso and finishes with a clean, cropped hem.
  • Wide-leg trousers. We knitted the trousers with an elastic waistband and an adjustable drawstring for an easy fit at the waist. The legs drop wide and loose through to the hem.
  • Fluid yarn hand. The knit is fine and light, providing gentle stretch and a smooth feel against bare skin. It drapes loosely without clinging to the body during warmer days.
  • Care and maintenance. Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold water with similar tones. Lay both the top and the trousers flat to dry on a towel to preserve the stitch shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
