What we would tell you in the studio

  • Knit and gauge. We use a plush yarn blend with natural stretch that holds warmth without feeling heavy. The knit has a balanced weight that lets both the sweater and the long skirt drape naturally rather than cling.
  • Neckline and sleeves. The sweater is finished with a round crew neck that lies flat across the collarbone. Long sleeves finish in ribbed cuffs that stay in place at the wrist or push up along the forearm.
  • Maxi skirt length. The skirt falls straight down to land below the knee and toward the ankle. Because of the knit weight, the skirt hangs clean without bunching as you walk through the day.
  • Cold water care. Wash the set by hand or on a gentle cold cycle to protect the yarn structure. Lay both pieces flat on a clean towel to dry so the heavy skirt does not stretch out of shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
