What we would tell you in the studio
- Chunky stitch texture. The open knit pattern uses thick yarn to build a dimensional surface. It has weight and natural give, creating a substantial outer layer over thin tees or woven slips.
- Roomy cropped cut. The body is cut wide through the torso and finishes at a shortened length. It sits clear of the hips rather than clinging, leaving room for shirts underneath.
- Ribbed crew neck. A plain round collar anchors the front button line. Matching ribbing frames the decorative buttons and runs along the cuffs to gather the long sleeves slightly at the wrist.
- Washing and drying. Hand wash in cold water using a mild wool soap. Press excess moisture out in a clean towel and dry the knit flat on a mesh rack so the heavy stitches do not stretch.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
