Women's Long Cardigan Sweaters Fall Oversized Jacket Trench Coats

We knit this coat with a dense gauge and gentle stretch so the fabric holds its shape without feeling stiff. The front stays open, hanging straight down the body with side pockets set flat into the seam. It pulls on easily over fine-gauge sweaters, woven shirts, or basic tees.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • High collar construction. The shawl collar stands up around the back of the neck and continues down into the straight front edge, adding weight so the open panels hang flat.
  • Roomy open cut. We gave this piece a generous fit that falls clear of the body. The dropped shoulders lead into full-length sleeves that slide over heavy base layers without binding.
  • Integrated side pockets. Two pockets are knitted into the side seams to keep the outer profile smooth. They sit low enough to rest hands in without pulling the front panels out of alignment.
  • Washing and care. Hand wash cold with mild soap or dry clean to preserve the dense yarn structure. Press excess water out in a clean towel and lay flat to dry rather than hanging.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
