Women's Long Sleeve Mini Cottagecore Dresses

We knit this short dress from a fine cotton yarn backed with a light inner lining. The bodice uses elastic smocking to sit close before releasing into a straight, short skirt. An open square neckline balances the full-length sleeves, dyed in a pale sage green.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Square neck and smocking. The neckline cuts wide and flat across the collarbone, framed with small ruffle trims along the edge. Below it, rows of fine smocking draw the knit close through the chest before easing outward at the waist.
  • Long sleeve balance. Full-length sleeves run straight from the shoulder seam down to the wrist without heavy cuffs. They provide full coverage up top while the hem below remains cropped and light.
  • Soft lined knit. We chose a cotton-rich yarn that stays soft against bare skin without feeling heavy. An integrated lining layer adds opacity throughout the body so the light green shade stays solid when worn outdoors.
  • Washing and shape care. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the smocked elastic threads. Reshape the square neck while damp and dry flat on a towel away from direct heat.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
