What we would tell you in the studio

  • Double layer construction. Two fine knit layers sit back to back throughout the body. This build keeps the dress opaque, adds weight to the drape, and helps the yarn hold its shape after hours of wear.
  • Crew neck and sleeves. The neckline is a simple ribbed crew that rests against the collarbone. Long sleeves are cut narrow to match the body, ending cleanly at the wrist bone.
  • Ankle length cut. The knit drops in a continuous line from the waist down past the calf. A straight hem rests near the ankle, sitting steady as you move rather than riding up.
  • Care and washing. Wash on a cold cycle inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the fine surface from snagging. Tumble dry on low heat or lay the piece flat to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
