What we would tell you in the studio

  • Fine rib knit. The vertical ribbing gives this lightweight yarn gentle stretch and helps the fabric recover after packing. It hangs away from the skin rather than clinging, which keeps the set comfortable in warmer air.
  • Crew neckline and cut. The top is built with a simple crew neck and long sleeves that fall straight to the wrist. We kept the body roomy through the waist so the hem settles without bunching over the matching knit trousers.
  • Ankle length drape. The trousers drop straight from the waist and finish at the ankle. Because the rib runs lengthwise, the knit maintains a clean line down the leg when you move, walk, or sit for long stretches.
  • Washing and care. Wash this set in cold water on a gentle cycle and tumble dry on low heat. The rib texture resists creasing in travel bags, but you can lay both pieces flat to dry to maintain their original length.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
