What we would tell you in the studio
- Mock neck collar. The collar rises directly from the chest to sit midway up the throat. It holds its upright cylinder shape on its own, resting loosely against the skin without rolling or folding over.
- Split tunic hem. The hem falls past the hips with open splits along each side. These side vents let the lower edge part naturally when you walk, sit, or tuck the front into a knit waistband.
- Roomy sleeve shape. The sleeves drop from low armholes into a wide, straight line down the arm. Ribbed cuffs catch the knit at the wrists to keep the fabric from sliding over your hands.
- Gentle wash care. Hand wash in cool water or use a gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag. Lay the sweater flat across a drying rack to keep the heavy yarn from stretching out of shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
