What we would tell you in the studio

  • Cotton blend yarn. The yarn combines cotton with acrylic for a smooth, matte finish that rests light against bare skin. It holds its pale apricot shade through washing and resists stretching out across a full day of wear.
  • Open V-neck tank. The top is sleeveless with a shaped V-neckline that sits open at the collarbones. Cut roomy through the body, the hem stops short so it pairs clean with the high-rise shorts beneath.
  • Elastic waist shorts. We knit the matching shorts with an elasticated waistband that sits flat without binding. The legs hang wide and loose through the thigh, giving you room to move without the knit pulling or bunching.
  • Drying flat. Wash both pieces together in cool water to keep the apricot tone even between top and bottom. Reshape them while damp and lay them flat on a towel so the waistband and armholes keep their shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
