Women's Summer Off the Shoulder Flowy Top Short Puff Sleeve Shirt

We cut this warm weather top with a wide elastic ruffle neckline that rests off the shoulders or gathers closer to the neck. The body hangs away from the torso, ending in a short cropped hem that sits clear of high waists. Short puff sleeves finish with gathered cuffs to hold their shape.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Elastic ruffle neckline. The neckline uses an elastic channel trimmed with a soft ruffle. It stays in place across the collarbones without pinching, and you can pull it higher if you prefer more shoulder coverage.
  • Short puff sleeves. We gathered the sleeves at the shoulder seam and again at the cuff. The light fabric holds its rounded shape, while the ruffled lower edge rests easy against the mid-arm.
  • Cropped loose body. The torso cuts straight and wide, hanging away from the waist rather than clinging. The shorter hem length pairs directly over knit skirts, wide palazzo trousers, or high denim.
  • Washing and fabric care. The light woven yarn washes on a gentle cold cycle or by hand in a sink. Lay it flat on a dry towel to maintain the elastic gather along the neck and sleeve hems.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
