Womens Spring Short Sleeve Sweater Shirts Tops Summer

We knit this warm-weather top from light cotton yarn with horizontal bands of apricot and grey. The body hangs loose and squares off at a short hem, while the round crewneck and sleeve openings are banded in fine ribbing to hold their line. A single knit patch pocket sits flat on the chest.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Cotton stripe knit. We knit the apricot and grey stripes in a fine gauge cotton that feels cool and dry to the touch. The yarn has enough body to hold its square shape without clinging.
  • Crewneck and pocket. A narrow ribbed band finishes the round crew neckline so it keeps its shape through wash and wear. We added a flat knit patch pocket to one side of the chest.
  • Boxy short hem. The body is cut wide and drops straight down to a cropped hemline. That shorter length sits right at the waistband of high-rise knit trousers or full knit skirts without needing to be tucked.
  • Washing and drying. Hand wash in cold water or run on a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Press the water out gently with a towel and lay the knit flat to dry so the cotton will not stretch out.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
