Womens Turtleneck Oversized Long Sweater Dress
We knitted this piece with a high neck and generous room through the body, letting the yarn hang straight without clinging. Long batwing sleeves taper into ribbed cuffs at the wrists. It works worn on its own as a knit dress or layered over fitted trousers and leggings as a long tunic sweater.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Turtleneck and shoulders. The ribbed neck stands upright to keep drafts off the collarbone. Dropped shoulder seams transition directly into wide batwing sleeves that narrow down toward the wrists to keep the volume manageable.
- Roomy straight cut. We gave this dress a wide silhouette that falls away from the torso. The side splits at the lower hem give your legs clearance to stride without pulling the knit out of shape.
- Yarn and weight. The knit blends synthetic yarns to produce a medium gauge with a smooth surface hand. It holds enough heft to drape downward cleanly without feeling stiff against bare legs or arms.
- Washing and drying. Wash on a low temperature setting inside a mesh laundry bag, or wash by hand in cool water. Lay the piece flat on a towel to dry so the weight of the wet yarn does not stretch the hem.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
