What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck and trim. A plain round crewneck finishes the top, framed by contrast knitted trim. The dropped shoulder seams let the long sleeves fall easily down the arm to match the relaxed body cut.
  • Side-slit hem. The sweater hem lands around the hip and features neat side slits. These openings give the lower edge room to spread naturally over the wide-leg trousers when you move or sit.
  • Wide-leg trouser cut. Knitted in the same dye lot, the trousers feature a soft elastic waistband and a roomy leg profile. The knit falls straight from hip to hem with a clean, fluid drape.
  • Laundering and drying. Hand wash in cold water or use a gentle machine cycle with mild detergent. Lay both pieces flat on a clean towel to dry so the knit retains its shape.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
