What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck and contrast trim. The top is built with a round ribbed collar and dropped shoulders for an open, unconstricted fit through the chest. Light contrast edging defines the neckline and hem.
  • Side slits and hemline. Deep side slits at the top hem let the fabric part naturally over the trousers. The cut hangs straight without bunching when you sit or walk.
  • Wide-leg knit trousers. We gave the bottoms an elastic waistband that sits flat without drawstrings. The legs fall straight and wide to the shoe line, holding their shape through the day.
  • Cold water wash care. Hand washing in cool water protects the yarn structure. If machine washing, use a gentle cycle with mild detergent, avoid bleach, and lay both pieces flat to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
