What we would tell you in the studio

  • Blue and brown striping. The horizontal stripes are knitted directly into the fabric rather than printed on top. Knitting the pattern means the bands of blue and brown hold their alignment through the seams and retain their colour through regular washing.
  • Crew neckline and sleeves. A simple round crewneck keeps the top clean and stable across the collarbone. The long sleeves start from a dropped shoulder line, giving the arms plenty of room to move without pulling on the rest of the knit.
  • Ankle length drape. The trousers hang loose from the waistband and fall straight past the knee down to the ankle. Because the cut sits away from the leg, the fabric drops cleanly under its own weight without clinging.
  • Washing and care. Wash both pieces together in cold water on a gentle cycle so the blue and brown yarns age at the exact same rate. Lay the set flat across a drying rack to protect the shape of the knit.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
