What we would tell you in the studio

  • Cut and profile. The straight silhouette drops clean from the low waistband without clinging. The outer skirt covers built in shorts underneath, giving the look of a mini hem with the utility of a skort.
  • Cargo pocket detail. Side flap pockets sit flat against the fabric to hold small items without pulling the skirt out of shape. The stitching runs flat along the seams for a neat, utilitarian finish.
  • Woven stretch hand. We chose a cotton rich denim blend with added stretch so the fabric moves when you walk or sit. It feels soft against bare skin and holds its shape across the day.
  • Wash and care. Machine wash on a cold cycle inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the hardware and stitching. Hang the piece to dry naturally to preserve the khaki shade and the stretch in the fabric.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
