What we would tell you in the studio

  • Polo collar and neck. The fold-over polo collar sits flat along the shoulders and frames an open V-neck. Because there are no buttons or placket closures, the neckline stays flat and open on its own.
  • Straight cut and drape. We knit the body in a roomy column that falls straight down without pulling at the sides. The knit has enough weight to drop cleanly toward the knee rather than bunching around the hips.
  • Ribbed cuffs and hem. Wider ribbing finishes the long sleeves and the bottom hem. The sleeve rib grips the wrist to keep extra length in place, while the base band stabilizes the lower edge of the dress.
  • Washing and care. Hand wash in cold water or run on a gentle machine cycle with mild soap. Press the water out gently without wringing, then lay the dress flat on a clean towel to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
