What we would tell you in the studio

  • Linen and rayon blend. The yarn mixes linen with rayon for a dry, light hand that resists stiff creasing. It holds a soft drape through the wide legs without feeling heavy across a full day of wear.
  • Elastic waist with drawstring. A ribbed casing at the top holds an elastic core and an external tie cord. You can adjust the waist position to sit higher or lower on the hips to shift where the hems pool.
  • Roomy palazzo shape. The leg panels are cut full from the hip down to the lower hem. This wide profile allows air through and keeps the fabric from catching or clinging around the calves as you move.
  • Washing and drying. Machine wash in cold water inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the knit surface from snagging. Tumble dry on a low heat setting, or lay the trousers flat to dry to maintain their length.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
