What we would tell you in the studio
- High mock collar. The neck stands upright without folding over, sitting close enough to keep out drafts while leaving room around the throat. The knit holds its shape throughout the day.
- Batwing sleeve construction. Deep armholes taper down into long, fitted sleeves at the wrist. This cut creates extra volume through the upper body while keeping the lower arm neat.
- Roomy body drape. We cut the torso wide so the fabric falls straight down to the hip line. The hem hangs loose rather than pulling tight against trousers or skirts.
- Washing and care. Hand wash in cold water or dry clean to protect the yarn texture. Lay the sweater flat on a dry towel to dry so the heavy knit does not stretch out.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
