What we would tell you in the studio

  • Double layer neck. The high collar stands up around the throat and folds over once. It holds its tubular shape without pinching, giving you full coverage in cool air.
  • Dropped sleeve line. The shoulder seam sits low on the arm to give the chest a wide, unstructured drape. Long ribbed sleeves taper slightly toward the wrists to keep the cuffs in place.
  • Split high-low hem. The back hem knits longer than the front, dropping down past the hips. Side vents open the sides so the knit does not bunch up when you sit down.
  • Cold cycle care. Wash on a gentle cycle using cold water and a mild detergent, or wash by hand. Lay the sweater flat on a towel to dry so the wet knit retains its shape.

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
