What we would tell you in the studio
- Shoulder line and hold. The open neck folds over the collarbones and upper arms. We added discreet side-positioning along the knit so the neckline stays where you set it rather than creeping up when you raise your arms.
- Ribbed core-spun yarn. Spun with a smooth core yarn, the rib has enough spring to sit close without biting. It feels soft directly against the neck and chest, giving moderate fall warmth without scratchiness or excessive bulk under a coat.
- Babydoll waist and hem. The body hugs the ribs down to the high waist, then eases out into a short peplum flare. That cropped length clears the waistband of high-rise trousers and keeps the lower hem light.
- Washing and flat drying. Machine wash cold inside a mesh garment bag on a gentle cycle, or wash by hand. Squeeze out excess water without twisting the knit, then dry it flat on a rack so the peplum flare keeps its shape.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
