Women's Oversized Batwing Knit Sweaters
We knit this pullover with a deep batwing sleeve and a wide body that hangs clear of the torso. The outside seam detailing marks the shape along the shoulders and arms. It finishes with a split hem that drops low over trousers or skirts.

What we would tell you in the studio
- Batwing sleeve construction. The low armhole tapers into long ribbed cuffs that stay in place at the wrist. This shape leaves plenty of room across the chest and underarms without bunching.
- Exterior seam details. Raised seam lines sit on the outside of the knit across the shoulders and along the sleeves. They give structure to the relaxed panels of the body.
- Split tunic hem. The lower edge is divided at the side seams so the fabric moves easily when you walk or sit. The back panel hangs straight without pulling tight.
- Cold water care. Hand washing or running a gentle cycle in cold water keeps the knit from losing its shape. Lay the piece flat on a towel to dry so the weight does not stretch the yarns.
Living with this one
Do
- Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
- Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
- Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
- Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.
Skip
- Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
- The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
- Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
- Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
