What we would tell you in the studio

  • Smocked tube bodice. Elastic smocking runs through the chest section to keep the strapless shape anchored. It stretches across the torso and snaps back, holding its place without slipping or rolling during regular movement.
  • Flared peplum hem. Below the smocked section, the knit releases into a wide peplum ruffle. The cut is roomy through the waist and hips, moving freely as you walk rather than clinging.
  • Lightweight stretch blend. The knit blends synthetic yarns with added stretch for recovery. It feels smooth and cool on bare skin, keeping its dyed color through frequent wears and warm afternoons.
  • Layering and care. Wear it solo over shorts or slide it beneath an unbuttoned knit cardigan. Machine wash in cold water using a mesh laundry bag, or dry clean, then lay flat to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
