Womens Turtleneck Oversized Sweaters

We knit this pullover with a high neck that stays upright without squeezing. The body cut is wide and hangs clear of the torso, while the sleeves run full length to rib-trimmed cuffs. In this pale apricot shade, the yarn has a smooth hand with moderate weight for cool days.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Tall ribbed neck. The neckline sits high on the throat in a wide ribbed stitch. It holds its fold over the course of the day, leaving space around the base of the neck rather than pulling tight against skin.
  • Roomy body shape. We gave the torso a broad, straight cut that falls loose from dropped shoulders down past the waist. The hem finishes around the hip, giving the fabric room to drape straight without clinging to layers underneath.
  • Sleeve and cuff gauge. The sleeves cut wide through the upper arm and taper gently toward the wrists. A deep section of ribbing at each cuff holds the fabric at the wrist or stays in place if pushed up the forearm.
  • Washing and drying. Wash by hand or run on a gentle machine cycle using cold water and mild soap. Squeeze out excess moisture without twisting the body, then lay the knit flat across a drying rack to keep the shoulders true.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Read the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
