What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neck and buttons. A plain round crew neck sits clean against the collarbone, opening into a buttoned henley placket. You can leave a top button open over a thin base layer or fasten it shut for a higher neckline.
  • Roomy tiered drape. The cut stays loose from the chest downward, falling into an A-line shape with a tiered lower hem. It swings clear of the legs rather than clinging, which keeps air moving through the fabric when layered under a coat.
  • Side pocket construction. We set two deep pockets directly into the side seams of the skirt. They sit flat against the hip when empty and hold small items without pulling the waist out of line.
  • Washing the knit. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, preferably inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the blue finish. Lay the dress flat across a drying rack so the heavy skirt does not stretch out the shoulders.

Living with this one
