2 Piece Sets for Women Summer

We knit this two-piece set as a matching pair in deep navy blue. The top has short sleeves and a plain crewneck, while the cropped hem uses side slits to stay loose over the waistband. Below, the knitted shorts hang straight with wide legs.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crewneck and sleeves. The round crewneck is finished with self-ribbing that keeps its shape without pulling tight. Short sleeves drop slightly past the shoulder line, giving the upper body an easy, square drape.
  • Cropped split hem. We kept the hem of the pullover short so it clears the hips without bunching. Small side slits allow the hem to move independently over the elastic waist of the shorts.
  • Wide-leg shorts. The matching shorts sit high on the waist with an elasticated knit band. We shaped the legs wide and relaxed, so the knit hangs clear of the skin instead of clinging.
  • Yarn and washing. Knitted in a single dye lot to keep both pieces identical in tone. Hand wash in cold water or dry clean to protect the knit structure, then lay both flat on a towel to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
