What we would tell you in the studio

  • Crew neckline and cut. The top is built with a simple round crewneck and a roomy body that hangs away from the torso. The hem finishes high on the waist, balancing the width through the shoulders and long sleeves.
  • Matching drawstring shorts. We knit the shorts with an elasticated waistband and an adjustable drawcord so they stay put without pinching. The leg openings are cut wide to keep the shape relaxed and unrestrictive during wear.
  • Dense black knit. Knitted in a smooth, mid-weight yarn that holds a solid black tone through both pieces. The knit provides gentle stretch across the body and returns to shape after hours on the sofa or out walking.
  • Laundering and care. Wash both pieces together in cool water using a gentle cycle or wash bag. Lay the top and shorts flat on a towel to dry so the knit retains its original length and waistband stretch.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
