What we would tell you in the studio

  • Waistband and closure. We built a stretch band into the interior waist to move as you sit, while keeping the outside flat. A hook-and-bar tab and zip fly close the front cleanly without bunching.
  • Wide leg drape. The fabric carries enough weight to fall straight down from the hip to the hem. The wide cut stays open through the leg, creating a clean vertical line that moves easily over flats or low heels.
  • Dense stretch knit. We use a fine-gauge blend with high recovery so the knees do not bag out during long periods of sitting. The surface is smooth and matte in solid black, giving it the structure of a dress trouser.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle or wash by hand. Tumble dry on low heat or lay flat to dry to preserve the waist elasticity. Use a cool iron if needed.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
