We shaped these wide leg trousers from a compact rayon and nylon yarn with built-in stretch recovery. The front fastens with a clean hook-and-bar closure and zip fly, while hidden elastic inside the waistband gives ease through the middle. They fall straight from the upper leg into a generous lower hem.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Stretch and recovery. The dense knit blend uses spandex for give and nylon for snap-back recovery. It holds a structured line without bagging out at the knees after hours of sitting.
  • Clean waistband construction. We built an elastic band inside the waist casing to allow movement without breaking the tailored exterior line. The front remains flat with a concealed hook-and-bar closure.
  • Wide leg line. The cut sits close through the hip before opening into a broad, straight drop toward the floor. The weight of the yarn gives the leg a steady downward drape.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle or hand wash in cool water. Tumble dry on low heat or lay flat to preserve the yarn recovery, and use a cool iron if needed.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
