What we would tell you in the studio

  • Mock neck and seams. The high collar stands lightly against the neck with ribbed structure that matches the hem and cuffs. An exposed seam runs along the dropped shoulder line and down the spine.
  • Wide leg trouser cut. The knit pants hang straight from the flexible waistband down to the hem. Because the yarn has weight, the leg holds its line without clinging as you walk.
  • Yarn and drape. Knitted from a smooth yarn blend, the fabric feels soft against bare skin without prickle. It offers solid coverage while retaining a clean, steady drape across the day.
  • Washing and flat drying. Hand wash in cold water or use a dry clean cycle. Press gently with a cool iron if needed, and lay both pieces flat on a clean towel to dry.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
