What we would tell you in the studio

  • Ribbed mock neck. The collar stands up around the throat without folding over, finished in a clean rib that matches the cuffs and bottom hem. Exposed seam detailing runs down the dropped shoulder and center back.
  • Roomy wide leg cut. The trousers fall straight from the elastic waist down to the hem. The knit has enough weight to drop straight without clinging, making the legs hang loose through the ankle.
  • Yarn and drape. Knitted from a smooth yarn blend that feels soft directly against bare skin. The knit holds its shape while staying flexible, giving the top and bottoms a relaxed, fluid hang.
  • Care and maintenance. Hand wash both pieces together in cold water to keep the nutmeg shade consistent across top and bottom. Reshape the knit while damp and dry flat away from direct heat.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
