Women Pleated Stretchy Wide Leg Dress Work Business Casual Pants

We knit these trousers with front pleats and a wide leg that falls straight from the waistband. The yarn has built-in stretch so the fabric gives as you sit or walk, while the concealed front closure leaves the waistline flat and unencumbered. Deep side pockets sit along the outer seams.

What we would tell you in the studio

  • Wide leg cut. The legs fall straight down from the pleated waist, giving the lower hem room to move. It hangs clear of the ankles without clinging through the thighs, holding a clean vertical line in the A Mocha knit.
  • Waist and pleats. Front pleats add depth below a flat waistband equipped with belt loops and a hidden button closure. Functional side pockets sit deep along the hips, paired with decorative pocket welts set across the back.
  • Stretch fabric hand. We chose a medium yarn with generous stretch that recovers its shape after hours at a desk. The knit stays light against the skin, offering an easy hand that avoids the stiffness of woven suiting materials.
  • Care and washing. Wash cold on a gentle cycle inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the pleats and waistband. Lay the trousers flat on a clean towel to dry so the wide legs do not stretch out on a hanger.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
