What we would tell you in the studio

  • Waist and pleat construction. Front pleats add volume through the leg while the hidden waist button keeps the front band level. Belt loops wrap the waistband for your own belt.
  • Fabric and stretch hand. The woven surface has substantial give across the width. It holds the crease along the leg without feeling stiff or heavy against the skin.
  • Pocket and seam details. Two deep side pockets sit along the hip seams, joined by decorative welt pockets at the back. Raised front seams run down each leg.
  • Washing and shape care. Machine wash cold inside a mesh laundry bag to protect the front closure. Lay the trousers flat to dry to keep the pleats crisp.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
