What we would tell you in the studio

  • Rib knit structure. We work this set in a dense cotton rib that holds its shape through hours of wear. The knit has enough weight to drop cleanly without bunching up at the waist.
  • Top and neckline. The pullover features a plain round crew neck, long sleeves, and a front pouch pocket. Ribbed cuffs keep the wrists neat, and the hem lands right around the hip.
  • Tapered knit trousers. The pants pull straight on with an elasticated waistband and side pockets set into the seams. The leg tapers gently toward the ankle to keep the hem clear of your shoes.
  • Washing and care. Hand wash in cold water or dry clean to protect the rib structure. Press excess water out between towels and lay both pieces flat to dry so the knit does not stretch.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
