What we would tell you in the studio

  • Knitted as a pair. Both pieces come off the machines in the same dye lot of muted army green. The yarn has enough body to hold the shape of the wide trouser legs without feeling heavy across the shoulders.
  • Top and collar detail. The round crew neck leads into a neat Henley placket with secured buttons. Cut with a dropped shoulder and long sleeves, the top sits away from the torso and finishes near the hip.
  • Trouser shape and pockets. The pants are cut wide through the leg and fall straight from the waist. We set pockets directly into the side seams so the front stays flat when you walk.
  • Washing and shape care. Machine wash cold inside out on a gentle cycle, using a mesh bag to protect the knit. Lay both pieces flat on a dry towel to dry, reshaping the trouser legs while damp.

Living with this one

Do

  • Wash cold and on the gentle cycle, or by hand if the yarn feels loose.
  • Dry it flat, in shape, away from the radiator.
  • Fold it on the shelf rather than hanging it by the shoulders.
  • Measure a jumper you already like and compare it before you settle on a size.

Skip

  • Bleach and fabric softener, both of them flatten the surface.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is how knit becomes one size smaller.
  • Hangers with thin shoulders, they leave two points that never come out.
  • Ironing directly on the face of the knit.
